Ceux que l’on appellerait en bon français Cuillère et Blanc sont de retour ! Enfin pour les lecteurs qui attendaient le tome 8, seulement… car au début de cette nouvelle histoire, ils manquent à l’appel, comme la totalité des passagers d’un avion rentrant d’Australie. S’ils font preuve d’humanité et s’inquiètent pour la plupart des portés disparus, leurs collègues de New York paraissent presque soulagés de leur disparition. Mais les deux inspecteurs, que l’on comparera par la taille à Johan et Pirlouit et par l’esprit à Rantanplan et Averell, sont des durs à cuire. On découvre bien rapidement qu’ils sont sains et saufs, échoués sur une île en compagnie d’une partie de l’équipage, dont leur obsession de toujours, Courtney Balconi…
Dernier album paru chez Vents d’Ouest, en 2010, Neverland est le dernier à être réédité chez Bamboo, en même temps que son prédécesseur, Manhattan Kaputt. Jean et Simon Léturgie continuent de s’amuser et de nous amuser en détournant non pas un avion mais les codes des histoires de naufragés ! Pas besoin cependant d’être passionné par la série Lost pour apprécier l’album. Eloignés de leur univers habituel, Spoon et White restent fidèles à eux-mêmes, redoublant de bêtises pour tenter de séduire (toujours en vain) leur journaliste préférée. Le lecteur reconnaîtra quelques sosies de personnalités en vogue il y a quinze ans, comme l’écologiste Nicolas Hulot ou encore le regretté Arno et Benoît Poelvoorde parmi les survivants, ce qui accentue un peu plus le comique (et la belgitude !) d’une aventure une nouvelle fois irrévérencieuse et truffée de clins d’œil divers. Quand, en plus, c’est bien dessiné, on ne peut que s’incliner et savourer. Ne gommons pas non plus les couleurs de Gom, qui renforcent le cadre exotique de cette histoire. En achevant le déménagement de la collection dans une demeure en Bamboo qui devrait s’avérer définitive, Neverland se pare d’un très bel écrin, caractérisé comme pour les autres par une nouvelle couverture soignée (si elle correspond parfaitement à la nouvelle maquette percutante, on ne boudera pas non plus la couverture d’origine) et par une dizaine de pages de suppléments très appréciables.
Dernier tome « historique » à être réédité, Neverland est indubitablement le plus dépaysant de la série, à (re)découvrir d’urgence !
