Des millénaires durant, deux peuples se sont livrées une guerre sans fin, ne s’alliant que pour la création d’un anneau-monde leur permettant de survivre à un soleil mourant. Agorriens et Zertoniens sont viscéralement destinés à se haïr et se combattre, refusant tout contact, même visuel. Pourtant, deux d’entre eux vont devoir collaborer pour survivre à un crash en territoire hostile et inconnu. Darak, un pilote émérite, réussit à convaincre la farouche Solila d’accepter une alliance temporaire. En se rapprochant, ils vont faire des découvertes qui risquent de mettre en péril l’avenir de leur deux peuples…

Urban Comics a réussi un joli coup en récupérant les droits du nouvel univers créé par Robert Kirkman. La sortie initiale de Void Rivals a en effet très vite dépassé le simple cadre d’un titre inédit de ce scénariste à qui l’on doit Walking Dead ou Invincible, puisque, dès le premier chapitre, une révélation inattendue attendait les lecteurs avec l’apparition soudaine de l’autobot Jetfire ! S’il ne fait qu’un passage éclair, l’auteur a rapidement confirmé les rumeurs : Void Rivals a bien lancé une collection, baptisée Energon Universe, destinée à relancer des sagas telles que Transformers et G.I. Joe (Duke et Cobra Commander sortiront en français à l’automne). Cette introduction ne fait pour l’instant qu’effleurer les possibilités de croisement entre les titres, prenant le temps – même si tout va très vite, peut-être même un peu trop, après une introduction rappelant le film Enemy Mine de Wolfgang Petersen – d’introduire ses protagonistes dans un cadre de science-fiction très classique. Les deux héros, très dissemblables, sont plutôt attachants et l’histoire de leurs peuples propice à de belles aventures spatiales, mais on attend encore le petit plus qui en fera un incontournable du moment. Le scénariste sachant comment faire durer le plaisir, on lui fait confiance. Graphiquement, Lorenzo De Felici parvient à être créatif, aussi bien dans les tenues des personnages que dans quelques ambiances originales, même si lui aussi doit trouver ses marques dans un si vaste projet.
Une sympathique introduction à un univers partagé qui ressuscite des rêves d’enfants.
