Le 7 mars 2018 sort chez Grafiteen l’adaptation BD du court-métrage d’animation réalisé en 2014 par Robert Kondo et Dice Tsutsumi et, multi-récompensé : Le veilleur des brumes (nominé aux Oscars 2015, sélection de la Berlinale 2014, Prix Toronto International Film Festival…). Ils ont commencé à développer ce projet tout en travaillant sur Monsters University (Disney Pixar) et l’ont produit pour Tonko House, leur studio d’animation basé à Berkeley en Californie, avec un programme coopératif de Pixar. Le plus intéressant dans tout cela est que Robert Kondo, en tant qu’auteur, et Dice Tsutsumi, en tant que dessinateur, sont les créateurs de cette bande dessinée qui promet de belles choses et dont nous vous proposons le pitch ci-dessous.
Comme son père avant lui, Yuck est chargé d’activer les ailes d’un moulin perché sur les remparts pour éloigner les brumes mortelles. De sa vigilance dépend la survie de la ville. Mais qui se soucie du veilleur des brumes ?
Yuck est orphelin, mais sa place est sur le rempart. Toutes les douze heures, le petit cochon active les ailes du moulin pour éloigner le brouillard mortel qui s’insinue vers la ville. Le reste du temps, il cherche à mener une existence normale. Pas facile quand tout le monde l’évite, car il rappelle la menace qui pèse en permanence sur la ville… À l’école, il n’a qu’une amie, Fox, une renarde. Le problème, c’est que Yuck doit la partager avec Hippo, un gros balourd d’hippopotame pas franchement amical.
Un jour, Fox et Hippo décident de venir visiter pour la première fois le moulin… Malheureusement, un phénomène extraordinaire arrache le moulin du rempart et le projette loin dans la forêt. Les enfants sont en grand danger : ils n’ont que douze heures devant eux avant que le brouillard mortel ne revienne…
