Anne Bonny a vu la Mort ce soir dans le quartier français de la Nouvelle-Orléans. Elle lui a simplement dit qu’elle viendrait la prendre à la fin de la nuit en lui affirmant toujours l’aimer et lui promettant que tout serait paisible. Le lapse de temps qu’il reste à l’ancienne pirate des mers du Sud reconvertie en maquerelle impitoyable est largement suffisant pour qu’elle puisse raconter son histoire et rectifier les inepties débitées par la Capitaine Charles Johnson dans son Histoire générale des plus fameux pirates où un chapitre lui est consacré en duo avec Mary Read. Pour cela, elle fait appel à la meilleure de ses “filles”, Apolline, sa préférée, car elle veut que ce soit elle qui la remplace comme propriétaire et gérante de la “maison” une fois qu’elle ne sera plus là. Ainsi, dans Un complément à la vie d’Anne Bonny et Mary Read sera consigné le récit de la bâtarde irlandaise qui a traversé les mers pour arriver aux Caraïbes, a quitté les champs de coton et son père pour les bateaux pirates afin de vivre libre et d’amour avec le capitaine Jack Rackham avant de le rejoindre, lui ainsi que Mary, emportée par la faucheuse au petit matin !
La dernière nuit d’Anne Bonny est l’adaptation du fabuleux podcast éponyme d’Arte radio créé par Claire Richard elle-même qui s’essaye ici pour la première fois à l’écriture pour la bande dessinée. Et pour des débuts, force est de constater qu’ils sont très réussis. La scénariste nous régale à travers une narration originale où les pans de vie de l’un des plus grands mythes féminins de la piraterie sont entrecoupés d’interventions des auteurs se mettant en scène et défendant des points de vue différents à force d’arguments afin de rétablir certaines vérités. L’autrice nous embarque littéralement dans ce biopic où le lectorat découvre comment il s’est créé autour de l’ouvrage L’histoire générale des plus fameux pirates du Capitaine Charles Johnson (Il est possible que ce soit le pseudonyme de Daniel Defoe, l’auteur de Robinson Crusoé !) contenant les biographies de plusieurs pirates contemporains paru en 1724. Loin de consacrer Anne Bonny en tant qu’héroïne, le but – atteint ! – est de mettre en avant la femme éprise de liberté et pionnière dans cet univers, avec ses qualités et ses défauts, qui se trouve derrière ce nom légendaire. Issu du monde de l’animation où iel a travaillé en tant que directeur artistique et artiste de développement visuel pendant 10 ans, Alvi/Alvaro Ramirez fait également ses premiers pas dans le monde du 9e Art. Là aussi, cette première expérience est des plus convaincantes. Une prestation graphique où le trait est d’une belle finesse, les personnages sont tenus et la mise en couleurs dégage de belles ambiances.
Un roman graphique tout aussi passionnant que le podcast réalisé avec brio par de « jeunes » auteurs !
