Andrée a décidé de mettre de côté sa vengeance contre le duc et s’est lancée avec Thomas et Gilbert à la recherche du rouleau mortuaire de son père. Durant leur voyage en direction de la cathédrale de Saint-Pabu, Thomas leur fait part de ses connaissances sur les blasons et leurs significations. Tandis qu’ils font une halte dans une taverne, les trois compagnons rencontrent un homme hautain et bien singulier qui déplaît immédiatement à Andrée et se présente comme le fils illégitime de l’ancien roi Richard Cœur de Lion…
Ce que l’on aime dans Chroniques de la mariée de Bretagne, c’est la diversité des genres. Le scénario de Junji Takehara est un habile mélange d’aventure, de faits historiques et d’humour. Il est agréable de découvrir une partie de l’Histoire de France de cette manière, on sent bien qu’il s’agit d’un sujet qui passionne le mangaka et qu’il a fait de nombreuses recherches pour étayer son récit. L’introduction du personnage de Philippe, fils illégitime de Richard Cœur de Lion, apporte des rebondissements bienvenus et surtout des situations assez cocasses vu son caractère. L’évolution des personnages est intéressante, surtout celle de Thomas qui s’attache de plus en plus à Andrée. Il en devient le protagoniste que l’on apprécie le plus, Andrée restant encore un peu trop sûre d’elle et revêche. Cependant, dans l’une des scènes, elle laisse transparaître ses sentiments et ses frustrations, la rendant alors particulièrement attachante. Visuellement, les dessins du mangaka sont toujours aussi réussis.
Un deuxième tome qui confirme tout le bien que l’on pense de cette série.
