« Quelle vie on mène, tout de même, quand on a 8 ans ! » La devise de Cédric est toujours aussi active : arriver à séduire Chen, écouter les anecdotes plus ou moins vraies de son grand-père, empêcher ses parents de découvrir les mauvaises notes à l’école ou encore subir l’envie de son grand-père de se lancer dans la trottinette électrique à moteur super-boosté en essayant celle de Nicolas d’Aulnay des Charentes du Ventou, une découverte qui ne se fera pas sans conséquences et dégâts.
Ce 36e tome marque un tournant : pour la première fois depuis le décès de Raoul Cauvin, Laudec poursuit la série en solo. Il dédie d’ailleurs l’album à son scénariste disparu, son ami, qui reste encore présent via le personnage du grand-père, qui reste l’avatar du créateur scénaristique. Pour cette première en tant que scénariste, il arrive à inscrire la série dans notre époque : écologie via zéro déchet et réchauffement climatique, addiction aux écrans, charges mentales des femmes, différences de classes sociales ou encore télétravail désormais mis en œuvre pour Robert (le père). Pour le dessin, Laudec alterne entre le « gaufrier classique » de l’école franco-belge et des illustrations en page pleine, notamment celle représentant une guinguette d’antan avec les couleurs en noir et blanc qui est très marquante.
Tantôt humoristique, tantôt plein de tendresse, ce premier tome réalisé par Laudec en solo est une réussite.
