Après la mort du roi Médérion, le jeune This, alias Demeus Lor, rentre sur son île Ethyrna où il pense passer des jours tranquilles loin des guerres de pouvoir d’Angleon. Mais lorsqu’un groupe d’ours d’Arnor débarque et sème le carnage sur son passage, le tout jeune maître d’armes n’a d’autre choix que de brandir son épée pour se défendre. Ayant tué l’un des ours, il se réfugie dans la montagne avec d’autres félins souhaitant résister à l’envahisseur.
On avait adoré le personnage de This dans le premier cycle des 5 terres, on attendait donc beaucoup de ce spin-off lui étant intégralement consacré. Malheureusement on ressort un peu déçu de cette lecture. L’histoire est intéressante et on comprend rapidement qu’elle nous apporte un petit avant-goût du troisième cycle de la série mère qui sera consacré à la terre d’Arnor, le territoire des ours. Mais les retournements de la part du héros sont un peu déstabilisants, on ne comprend pas toujours ses choix et on perd donc toute affection pour le jeune ocelot qui apparaît comme un être assez opportuniste plutôt que comme un vrai héros. D’autres personnages prennent largement le dessus, notamment Lycius, qui s’avère bien plus droit et intransigeant dans ses idées et ses agissements. Visuellement, même si ce n’est plus Jérôme Lereculey mais Sylvain Guinebaud à la manœuvre, aucune différence flagrante n’est visible (probablement par le fait que David Poli soit directeur artistique sur ce one-shot également), permettant ainsi d’intégrer totalement cet album dans la série sans perdre le lecteur.
Un one-shot sympathique mais dispensable, la série mère étant bien plus intéressante.
